During this year’s Hong Kong Prize competition, a total of 79 teams of secondary school students participated. Under the guidance of their teachers, the teams chose a mathematical topic and conducted research to produce a written report. The reports were evaluated by a Scientific Committee comprising internationally acclaimed scholars and educators. The top 15 teams were invited to an oral defence and presented their research findings to a panel of judges.
The winners of this year’s HK Prize were announced at the awards ceremony held in the evening. The Hon KC Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delivered opening remarks via video conference. The winners were awarded a trophy and a cash prize sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC).
This year’s HK Prize is titled “The Future of Hong Kong” and is the sixth edition of this prestigious competition. The theme for this year is inspired by a quote from the late Chief Executive, Sir Donald Tsang: “The future of Hong Kong lies in our youth, and it is up to us to shape a better future for all.”
A total of HK$5 million in prizes were given out at this year’s contest, which attracted about 900 entries. The prize money has increased from the previous HK$3 million, reflecting the increasing financial support offered by the government to Hong Kong athletes.
