The BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, and is open to Hong Kong’s scientific research fields. The prize is awarded to individuals or teams who have made significant achievements in the transformation of their R&D findings and the benefit of the community through their pioneering efforts. The prize is designed to encourage scientists and researchers in Hong Kong to persist in innovative exploration, establish their research bases in Hong Kong, serve the nation and contribute to the world.
This year, the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PRIZE will be held under the theme “Honour and Disgrace”. We expect participants to explore the unique historical status of Hong Kong from different perspectives. We are particularly keen to receive submissions that reflect the current social issues in Hong Kong, such as the Hong Kong protests and the recent developments in Beijing.
The winner will be rewarded with HK$2 million and an award certificate. The winner will also have the chance to attend a summit in Hangzhou, which will provide a platform for Hong Kong-based scientists to showcase their work and seek collaborations.
In addition to the prize money, finalists will be able to gain exposure through media coverage and workshops, and will have access to world-class facilities at Hong Kong University. The winning entries will be selected by a jury, which will include academics from leading universities and industry representatives.
Hong Kong has long been a leading film and television production hub, and its talent pool is world-renowned. This year, the HKFA awards saw an array of homegrown talent winning prizes. The best picture award went to Ten Years, a film that taps residents’ fears about the future of the semi-autonomous territory as Beijing tightens its grip.
The HKFAs are conducted from January through March every year. A total of 132 films are eligible to win, and voting is done by registered voters from thirteen professional film bodies in Hong Kong. The winners are voted by these voters, along with selected critics and the award committee.
The HKFA is one of the most prestigious awards in local cinema. It is a great honour to be awarded this prize and I will strive to bring my best to the competition in the future. I hope that the other finalists will do the same and give their best to the contest. It is important for us to continue to work together and bring more excellent films to the public in the future.
