The hk prize is one of Asia’s most sought after scientific prizes, drawing thousands of applicants annually. This non-governmental merit-based award celebrates scientific research with global impact and encourages young scientists to pursue careers in science by providing both a monetary prize as well as the opportunity to conduct their research in Hong Kong.
Those who are interested in applying can visit the World of Winners splash page starting March 1 to see if they have what it takes to win a ticket to Hong Kong for a chance to meet the experts behind their chosen category. The competition is open to Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese and international applicants.
A total of HK$8 million was distributed to the winners of this year’s hk prize in a ceremony held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on October 17. The prizes were awarded by renowned academicians and experts, including two Nobel Chemistry Prize laureates, Gregory Winter and Michael Levitt. Five Hongkongers were also nominated this year for the Nobel Peace Prize – Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong. They were recognised for their fervent dedication to fighting for freedom and democracy, and demonstrated how the human spirit triumphs even under duress.
The prize was established in honour of George B. Endacott, who was responsible for re-establishing the History Department as a respectable field of scholarship in the 1950s. The Prize seeks to perpetuate his memory and to further his life-long commitment to the study of Hong Kong history. The judging of the Prize is carried out by a pre-selection and final judging panels, with a maximum of one Grand Award and up to 10 Awards and Certificates of Merit presented each term in the product-based categories. To ensure consistency of judging standards, the final judging panels for the company-based and product categories are formed from the same pool of people.
The hk prize was established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, and is title sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The prize is aimed at promoting scientific and standardized management of the Prize, and to encourage scientific researchers in Hong Kong and overseas to persist in innovative exploration, establish themselves in Hong Kong, serve the nation and contribute to the world. Each award field reward should not be given to more than 5 persons or teams per year. The selection process is rigorous, with objective evaluations and independent judgments made by a panel of judges. Each winner will receive a cash prize, a certificate and a trophy. The details of the judging procedure can be found in the Prize Charter. The charter is also available for viewing on the Official Website of the hk prize.
