The Hong Kong Prize is an illustrious writing competition that attracts authors from around the world. Top ten finalists receive both monetary awards and shopping vouchers, as well as F&B perks. The judges’ panel will select 20 shortlisted works from all nominations received. The winning artworks will be displayed at the HK Museum of Art and Architecture from April to June, after which the judges will meet and decide on the winner. In addition, a public exhibition of all entries will be held at the HK Museum from April to May.
Applicants should support the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, and hold high social morality and professional ethics. Their work should be primarily completed in Hong Kong, and should show evidence of significant innovation with clear economic impact and application. The organisers have formulated a review procedure that is conducted independently from any organization or individual and does not involve anyone with any financial interests in the work being reviewed.
Nominees for the prize are selected by a jury composed of members from the community of Hong Kong, including university professors and other academics. This year, the committee also invited Hong Kong-based scholars to nominate individuals who have been active in resisting the Chinese government’s crackdown on freedom and democracy, such as activists, journalists, lawyers, legislators and business leaders. They are a diverse group of people who have shown courage in the face of oppression, and whose commitment to freedom should serve as an example for all of us.
